Actor/Producer Stephanie Thorpe Declares “Geek Girls Create” at WonderCon 2012

One Year After ‘ElfQuest’ Launch Thorpe Returns as Panelist with Geek Girlfriends

Los Angeles, CA – Actor/Producer/Content Creator STEPHANIE THORPE is gathering her geek girlfriends for the “Geek Girls Create” panel at WonderCon in Anaheim, CA on March 17th, 2012. Thorpe, who premiered her highly acclaimed, fan-made, non-profit trailer “ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining” at WonderCon 2011, returns to discuss the ups and downs of living, loving and creating geek culture.

“Geek Girls Create” will bring together a group of talented women who have taken their love of the geek life and turned it into a career. These geek girls direct, produce, act, host and embody geek culture, creating their own award-winning content for film, TV and the web. Thorpe will be joined by: Leah Cevoli (Robot Chicken, Jedi Camp), Kristen Nedopak (Fight Class, Think Hero TV), Jessica Mills (Awkward Embraces), Crix Lee (Girl Gamer, The Frame Rate) and Helenna Santos Levy (Girl and Boy, American Reunion).

An expert on New Media, Thorpe is a celebrated panelist and speaker and has been featured at numerous conventions around the country including Comic Con, Digital Hollywood, AFI, Screen Actors Guild, SAG Conservatory, WonderCon, VidCon, Comikaze, GeekGirlCon and The HollyShorts Film Fest. Thorpe also just appeared on a panel for DotCon: The Convention at Your Desk, along with Aaron Douglas (star of BSG), and Deric Hughes (writer of Warehouse 13).

The international website Pop Culture Monster just named Thorpe as one of their top “Geeks and Nerds of 2011” alongside notables Zachary Levi, Felicia Day, and Robin Williams. The series “Gold: Night of the Zombie King”, in which she stars, just earned 5 nominations from the International Academy of Web Television Awards (IAWTV), and a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Thorpe at the New York Television Festival (NYTVF). Also just announced, Thorpe is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her work on Zombie King on IndieIntertube.com.

Thorpe collaborated with producing partner Paula Rhodes for “ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining”. www.elfquestfantrailer.com Based on the mystical 1978 comic book series, “ElfQuest”, from creators Wendy and Richard Pini, Thorpe starred in as well as directed the project. Since its launch at WonderCon 2011 and at a SAG New Media gala event, Thorpe’s vision for “ElfQuest” has earned enormous fan and media support, including a panel at Comic-Con 2011, an interview with CBS, and an article in the New York Times. On February 25th, 2011, “ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining” was nominated for two IndieIntertube Awards.

Recently, Thorpe joined the cast of web series “Shelf Life”, which she is producing alongside Yuri Lowenthal (Legion of Superheroes) and Tara Platt (Afterworld). The project is directed by Paul Jenkins (Eisner Award-winning comic). In other producing news, Thorpe is developing an Untitled Andrew Erin TV series, a Teen Thriller series, and will be starring in a new project she’s creating called “The Lady’s Room”, with Jessica Mills (Awkward Embraces) and Tanya Ihen (Vampire, Zombie, Werewolf). Thorpe was recently cast as a lead in new series “Pairings”, as well as the indie feature “Love for Demons”.

Thorpe has proven herself a driving force as a producer and actor in numerous web projects including the critically acclaimed “After Judgment” (6 Streamy nominations), “Asylum” (NYTVF official selection, LA Web Fest winner, and just picked up by BET), Babelgum’s “Hurtling Through Space”, and Tyler Mane’s “The Mane Show”. Thorpe has been nominated to the Board of Directors for IAWTV, hosted 4 events for the non-profit organization Celebrate the Web and is a founding member of The League of Extraordinary Ladies, a group of over 600 members focused on fostering connections in the geek community.
